Message from the Head of School
At GEMS World Academy Switzerland (GWAS), we think it's vital for parents to have a strong, open relationship with our teaching staff. And that starts with our Head of School, James Dalziel.
James has extensive experience in leading and managing schools, with more than sixteen years as a Head of School at international schools in Singapore and in the International Baccalaureate (IB). He has lived and worked in Canada, the USA, Singapore, UK, France and Switzerland and specialised in school improvement and the development of school leadership. James brings his passion and energy to GWAS to provide strong, inspiring leadership and the best possible education for all students.
Here is a personal message from James:
"Welcome to our GEMS Switzerland website. Within these pages, you will gain a sense of our wonderful community of students, parents, faculty and staff. We are very fortunate at GEMS to enjoy a rich and diverse school with families from over 35 nationalities, situated within the beauty and grandeur of Switzerland.
We value each student as an individual. We aim to ensure that each child reaches his or her full potential not only intellectually but also emotionally and regarding their well-being. Our fundamental task is to continuously improve the learning for all of our students across all areas of our curriculum and throughout our wide and varied Learning Programme. We create well-orchestrated learning opportunities in service, sports, the arts, as well as academics, to meet our aims. We deliver a high-quality international education that has its foundations within the well respected and established International Baccalaureate Primary, Middle, and Diploma Programmes. Our academic programme is complemented and balanced with opportunities to engage in Service, Arts, Sports, and local activities; providing a holistic and rich experience for all of our students.
Our students develop the knowledge and skills to navigate their changing world. This learning happens across all levels of the school, from Kindergarten classes all the way through to grade twelve; building in small incremental steps as students develop and mature. When you visit the school, you will see our students engaged in their learning. They will be collaborating in groups, asking questions, and searching for answers that will take them well beyond the level of a standard exam or test. You will sense the warmth and kindness that underpins all of our relationships across the school and between all members of our community."

We combine the educational heritage and benefits of being part of the GEMS Education network, with some of the best contemporary facilities. What our families talk about the most is the quality of the teachers and the learning experience.
