Message from the Head of School
At GEMS World Academy Switzerland (GWAS), we think it's vital for parents to have a strong, open relationship with our teaching staff. And that starts with our Head of School, Catherine McKeever.
Catherine has extensive experience in leading and managing schools, with fifteen years as an educational leader in the UK. She has lived and worked in the USA, UK and Dubai and has specialised in school improvement and the development of school leadership. Catherine brings her passion and energy to GWAS to provide strong, inspiring leadership and the best possible education for all students.
Here is Ms. McKeever’s message to Parents and Caregivers:
Our school of over 250 students has established itself as a leading IB World School in the local area. The families that make up GWAS come from all over the world and no doubt you will meet a fellow countryman among our families. We celebrate this great richness of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds and are very proud that, in this multicultural setting, we are able to offer a friendly, stable and caring community for all of our children. We work to provide our children with the best possible education in the fullest sense of the word; academically, culturally and emotionally.
During these formative years, we aim to work together to create a nurturing environment that enables our children to realise their potential and to confidently grow into fulfilled and rounded adults. Students are encouraged to develop a social conscience by taking part in charitable activities and to make a positive contribution to the world in which they are growing up. Their wellbeing is our number one priority, which is why we have our own Director of Student Wellbeing.
Our academic and extracurricular achievements are excellent and we are very proud of our broad and balanced curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate Programmes. The offerings at GWAS are outstanding. There is a comprehensive sport, cultural and arts programme integrated into the school day – without sacrificing any of our students’ other key lessons. In addition, we offer residential camps, field trips, ski days and participation in local events of the Vaud region.
As a parent, you will find our school offers a welcoming and inclusive environment to meet new people and make new friends. We have a Parent Relations Executive and a strong Parental Engagement Programme, and we actively encourage our parents, grandparents or brothers and sisters to come and join students for lunch in our restaurant.
As a GEMS school, we have the great advantage of having the support of the GEMS Education Group. We also have strong links with the other GEMS World Academies around the world.
We welcome you and look forward to working with your family to prepare your children for the ever-changing global world.
