Extra-Curricular & Trips

GEMS children don’t stop learning and having fun when their lessons are over.

All year round, they can choose from a wide range of clubs and extra-curricular activities, allowing them to pursue long-held interests or learn new skills.

From creative and performing arts to subject extensions and sporting activities, our clubs and activities are designed to build our children's aspirations, give them valuable, transferable skills and – most importantly – help them make new friends and have fun.

World Scholar's Cup

In July 2018, some of our GEMS students participated in five days of intense competition at the Barcelona Global Round of the World Scholar’s Cup along with 2000 other scholars from 57 countries.

This was an engaging academic experience that explored six fascinating subjects through knowledge challenges, essay writing and debates. The first day included an opening ceremony and a scavenger hunt around the city. The second day was “Crunch Time”, where students were able to challenge their knowledge, prove their writing skills and appear in debates. On the third day, students participated in “The Bowl” which was an interactive and collaborative quiz followed by the debate showcase where one of our student competed against seven other debaters. The “Cultural Fair” took place the next day for a fun and friendly way to represent our country and its culture. And in the evening, everyone attended the “Scholar’s Ball” for a night of dancing.

At the end of this adventure, medals and trophies were distributed and accomplishments were acknowledged. Our students came home with great results both in the senior and junior divisions. We look forward to the next step in this experience, which is the opportunity to go to Yale to compete.

Field trips

Every year, we offer our students the opportunity to enjoy enriching new experiences outside the school environment. By participating in short or multi-day trips, children enjoy an alternative outlook, learn about new places and people, and develop new skills – while having plenty of fun.

Snow days

Our annual winter trips to places such as Villars and Leysin offer children a chance to enjoy the breathtaking Swiss mountains, while acquiring or perfecting their winter sports skills. During our trips, we keep active through snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding. It’s a great way for children to share new experiences and make new friends.

Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, bringing together practical experiences and life skills to challenge and reward young people. GEMS World Academy Switzerland is proud to offer the Award to young people aged 14 to 18.

The Award is voluntary, non-competitive, enjoyable and balanced and requires effort over time. There are three levels to the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Our students design their own Award programme, set their own goals and record their own progress. They choose a Service, Physical Recreation and Skills activity, go on an Adventurous Journey and, to achieve a Gold Award, take part in a residential project. The only person they compete against is themselves, by challenging their own beliefs about what they can achieve.

We offer a variety of fun Holiday Camps on our campus, some organized by GEMS (Sports, Languages, Music and Cooking) and others run by external companies like Intersoccer and Simply Theatre.
