Music Academy

MusicAt our Music Academy, students from GWAS and other schools can participate in a wide range of instrumental and vocal lessons. Music lessons are available to the public after school hours.

The Academy provides a convenient and secure place for your child to learn music in a fun environment. For GWAS students, courses can be integrated into the school day , freeing-up after school time

Music is an integrated part of our curriculum and can now also be part of the Diploma Programme.

Students are taught by high-level professional instructors who bring a wealth of practical and real-world experience to their subject area. They are all pedagogically trained and remain actively engaged in their professional work.

Choose your instrument

Our courses are available to children aged 6 and above at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Individual instruction is offered for the following instruments (subject to demand): Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar (classical, acoustic, electric), Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Bass Guitar, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, French Horn, Voice/Singing, Theory.

In addition to individual lessons, we offer group lessons in Beginner’s Violin and Sing & Strum, a fun class where children learn to sing songs while accompanying themselves on the guitar with chords.

As with many activities, we believe the joy of making music is proportionate to the effort you put in. That’s why we recommend our students practice every day to ensure regular progress.

Playing to an audience

We organise music performances throughout the year and believe they are an important opportunity for children to develop their performance and presentation skills, as well as their self-confidence. We encourage all our students to take part.

We also have a school orchestra. All instruments are welcome: strings, brass, woodwind and percussion. Students need to be able to play independently to a minimum level, assemble their instruments without assistance and read music. The orchestra is a partnership with the Geneva Youth Ensemble, and a minimum of 5 students is required.

Study and qualifications

GEMS World Academy Switzerland is a testing centre for the ABRSM (Associated Boards for the Royal Schools of Music) external music examinations. Both theory and practical examinations are offered several times throughout the year. Motivated students are encouraged to pursue these optional exams which can, at the higher level, lead to university entrance credits for UK universities. The programme is also highly regarded by other schools and universities as proof of students’ motivation, commitment and achievement.

Our Music Academy students have already attained outstanding results in both practical and theory examinations and we look forward to their continued success.
